From Joseph to James With One Letter

This is part of the image from the Vermont, Vital Records 1760-1954 collection at FamilySearch for a Mr. Fairman who died in Windsor, Vermont, in 1903.

The typed entry for the name reads "Fairman, Jas. S."

The problem is that this typed card was probably made from a handwritten record. And that handwritten record probably said "Jos. S. Fairman," because the individual in question was actually named Joseph Sargent Fairman.

One letter makes a difference.
