1852 California State Census Asks Previous Residence

Did you know that the 1852 California State Census asked for "last residence?" Good information to have.

1852 California State Census-Mariposa County, page 34 (handwritten upper right)--digitally located on Ancestry.com.
And you thought only the 1940 United States Census asked for this information.

The second line on this page was the person of interest--and learning he'd been in Mexico before he was in California was a clue.

Now I've got to see if there are any extended family members who might have been in California in 1852. There might be some more "last residences" that I could use in my research.
