Can You Read It?
This actual signature comes from an 1856 Declaration of Intent in Adams County, Illinois. This German native was born in the 1820s.

It somewhat difficult to read, but Juergen got it correct: it is Bernd Dirks. Of course, this was an abbreviation for Bernard Dirks.
Bernard is my 3rd great-grandfather.
