One thing I like to collect (when I can) are signatures of my ancestors. The one shown in this blog post is from Noentje Lena Grass Ufkes (1848-1902). It comes from testimony in a court case in the late 1870s involving her and her husband, Johann. I'm not certain yet how the case was decided, but we'll post that information when we get it.
The case really isn't all that genealogically relevant. However, I was excited to get the signature as there are no other records containing her actual handwriting. Land records only contain transcriptions not actual writing.
